MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO February 25, 2011 – Shaw Tracking, the leader in mobile communications for the Canadian Transportation industry announced the launch of the next generation of the Mobile Computing Platform (MCP) product line: the MCP110 and MCP200 designed to meet the needs of fleets of all sizes with a variety of operational profiles.
Now available in Canada, the Qualcomm platform MCP110 and MCP200 offer an industry first: evolved operating systems providing a highly functional in-cab office. Featuring open-source XP technology, up to 16 GB flash memory and higher processing speeds with 1.3 GB ram, the MCP110 and MCP200 offer drivers a host of new functionality at the click of a button. With added features, including an enhanced driver display, Wi-Fi, a PDF viewer and print capability conveniently located in-cab, access to on-board driver tutorials, bilingual text-to-speech capabilities, and the option for drivers to work using both official languages, this new technology takes fleet management and safety to the next level.
“On-board computing technology continues to evolve, and Shaw Tracking is committed to bringing the very latest in flexible mobile information systems to our ever-growing customer base,” said Mike Ham, Vice President, Shaw Tracking. “This revolutionary platform has raised the bar in fleet operations management to true on-board computing. Already in-market in the United States, the new MCP platforms have proven to be delivering real returns."
This next generation MCP100 series driver interface, the MCP110, boasts a higher resolution and increased depth colour display resulting in improved clarity and on-board imagery, ultimately enhancing driver satisfaction and user experience with applications such as automated driver logs, and mapping for navigation. The MCP110 supports all current MCP100 series applications and operates using terrestrial and Wi-Fi communication. With Wi-Fi enabled communication, drivers can access static internet content as well as web-based email programs. Wi-Fi also allows customers to scan documents and send large files for free.
Building on the MCP110, the MCP200 is a sophisticated, tri-mode wireless information solution that incorporates Wi-Fi, cellular and satellite communication options, and adds in video capability for a truly interactive in-cab office. The MCP200 is designed to increase transportation company revenues and customer service by further enhancing in-cab productivity and improving driver training while providing innovative and interactive audio and video media, ideal for managing a remote work-force. With enhanced content management fleets can send and manage on-board interactive training videos to vehicles, receiving acknowledgement that drivers have opened and completed the training.
With multiple data ports to connect peripherals such as document scanners and printers, the new MCP platforms can also facilitate administrative tasks such as document filing, sending and on-board printing. A dashboard displaying driving hours and performance helps drivers and driver managers plan their daily, weekly and monthly working time and monitor driving patterns, resulting in optimized driving performance and increased road safety. Both of the new products contain processors designed to run applications optimally. Customer rollouts are currently in process for both models.
